With Honecker and the Dalai Lama, we promote democracy
Elections not only determine politics but also greatly influence the reputation of a country. For this reason, we took action. Because we decide how we want to live in the future and, above all, how we want to interact with one another. We determine the reputation of our country in Germany and the world. This election was therefore particularly close to our hearts. We wanted to send a signal, encourage people to vote, and not to vote for the far right. Shortly before the 2019 state elections in Saxony, our campaign appealed to voters' conscience. Many other creatives in Dresden and Saxony supported us. So we were not alone.

Bigger, louder, mural!
As the flagship of the campaign, we used our mural on Bautzner Straße in Dresden, making it the largest campaign poster in Saxony. Kaboom. A full 420 square meters of political messaging hit Dresden’s Neustadt and beyond. The campaign also included comprehensive poster coverage in Dresden and its surrounding areas, featuring three additional motifs. The quotes on the motifs navigate tensions between past and future, pessimism and optimism, nostalgia and faith in the future, reaction and action.

   •   "Backward never, forward ever." (Inspired by Erich Honecker)
   •   "Tradition is not the worship of ashes, but the preservation of fire." (Gustav Mahler)

“With the messages, we aim to grab attention and inspire people to reflect on their actions and thoughts, as well as to become aware of potential mistakes and their long-term consequences. This is not just about a random cross on a piece of paper. The state elections are a key moment for our future. We decide the reputation of our country in Germany and the world. We decide how we want to live in the future and, above all, how we want to interact with one another. We want to send a signal, encourage people to vote, and prevent them from voting for parties dominated by anti-democratic and racist tendencies out of sheer, often deliberately incited dissatisfaction.”

The motif
The young child represents the future because that’s what the election is about. The motif is further divided into a dark and a light side. Separated by the child, the two sides symbolize the choice we have. The clock is ticking, as indicated by the hourglass on the girl’s shirt. The white rose in her hand symbolizes humanism and openness to the world, referencing the resistance group against the Nazi dictatorship. The ballot box represents the decision we are free to make ourselves. It bears four messages, each highlighting a contradiction. Additionally, each variation of the motif displays different symbols on the dark and light sides to reinforce the respective messages.

The artist
Our good friend Lars P. Krause aka Douze immediately joined as the artistic translator of the message. Born in 1970 in Hoyerswerda, he has been drawing with all available tools since childhood. For over 20 years, he has been creating artworks using screen printing in his own studio in Dresden. His clients include Dresden bands like Lasse Reinstroem and Dÿse, as well as major acts like Beatsteaks, Die Toten Hosen, Eagles of Death Metal, Queens of the Stone Age, Foo Fighters, Soundgarden, and Pearl Jam. Lars P. Krause's works have been showcased in solo and group exhibitions throughout Germany and the world.

Posters for a good cause
Celebrated online, many people wanted to distribute the motifs and messages in their neighborhoods or decorate their own homes. Our office became a pop-up state election street art store. The rush was enormous, as was the amount raised, which went entirely to a good and right cause. The Alliance Against Racism in Dresden was delighted with EUR 5,559.50. And we were even more delighted.
